Tuesday Morning Pottery for Beginners & Improvers with Fiona Scanlan – June/July 2019

This seven week course starts on Tuesday 4th June, and will take place every Tuesday morning from 10:30am-13:00pm on the following dates:

  • 4th June 2019
  • 11th June 2019
  • 18th June 2019
  • 25th June 2019
  • 2nd July 2019
  • 9th July 2019
  • 16th July 2019

During this seven week course you will use a range of handbuilding techniques including pinching, coiling, slabbing and use of press and hump moulds.  You will also be able to try out wheelwork if you wish or develop your skills if you already know the basics.  You can explore the many ways of using texture and decorative techniques in your work.

Week  1 – Health & safety, pinch pots, coiling and use of hump & press moulds & preparing clay for wheelwork,

Week 2 – wheelwork, slabwork, adding texture

Weeks 3-7 – continuing tu use handbuilding and wheelwork techniques, adding colour with slips and glazes

Week 5 is the last week for starting new projects.  This is to allow projects to be finished by the end of the course.

We are delighted that Fiona Scanlan, ceramic artist and current editor of The Midland Potters Association Newsletter Magazine, is teaching at Sundragon again in the new year.  Join her class, and get to explore and play with clay.  You will learn many of the techniques associated with creating objects from clay.  This is also a great introduction to studio life at Sundragon, and a beginning point if you are thinking of becoming a member.
