Do you want to raise your throwing game?
Are you longing to pull your pots just that little bit taller?
Are you struggling with consistency?
How do you make those bowls or mugs all the same size?
How do you throw a plate?
These questions and more will be answered by Austin.
Just by watching and looking at the way you throw, Austin has the uncanny ability to offer tips, tweaks, and ideas that will transform the way you work on the wheel.
This course is for people who have prior experience in throwing.
For those of you looking to throw larger vessels during this course, you will explore methods in your preferred throwing style.
Austin will  teach the proper preparation of clay.  Enabling you to produce larger pots with larger amounts of clay, then with improved technique you will also look at composite working and sectional throwing.

 

There is a member’s discount of 20% for this course.  If you are a member, please contact to request an invoice. 

Pots that students wish to keep, are paid for by weight.  This cost includes two firings and also covers the cost of glaze materials.
This six week course starts on Thursday 13th January 2022, and takes place every Thursday evening from 7.00pm – 9.30pm, in our members’ studio, in The Old Print Works, on the following dates :-
  • 13th January
  • 20th January
  • 27th January
  • 3rd February
  • 10th Febraury
  • 17th February

Pottery is a messy business.  Please remember, bring a clean wipe-able apron and a small hand towel with you, to each session.

The last 20 minutes of each session are dedicated to cleaning up.

COVID19

We take everyone’s health and safety very seriously!

Anyone in self-isolation or with COVID-19 symptoms must NOT visit the studio. Under any circumstances.

We may take your temperature, on arrival

The heated studio has large windows, that will be open, and there will be an extractor fan on.

Masks must be worn in the studio at all times.

Hand Sanitizer must be used before you enter the studio, and when you leave.

Unfortunately, we will have to charge a £5 non-refundable deposit, to cover our costs, should the classes need to be cancelled

We are delighted Austin is teaching here at Sundragon Community Pottery this Spring term 2022.

Austin has taught ceramics in and around Birmingham for over 25 years, to people of all ages.

“Throwing for Improvers” , is aimed at people who already throw on the wheel and want to push themselves further.
