During this eight week course, beginner students will learn to prepare the clay, both generally for hand building, and throwing on the wheel. You will be taught the basics to get going in any pottery technique you might be interested in … most people want to get on the potters wheel. Once you are making vessels, you will learn to refine the surface of your work ready for decoration. You will cover various surface decoration techniques, including using using coloured slips and glazes. Students will also learn “good studio practice” in our studio This course starts Thursday 5th September 2019 and will take place every Thursday evening from 7pm-9.30pm on the following dates:
Please remember .. Pottery can be a messy business … Dress for outdoor play, and please bring an old hand towel, and apron(preferably wipeable) we expect these to be taken home and cleaned for each session. Also, long nails are a problem, particularly when throwing on the potters wheel. Please do trim them before your lessons. Thank you.
We are delighted that John Chamberlain is teaching at Sundragon. This Thursday evening class is for complete beginners and improvers, and will explore various methods of working with clay.
