We are delighted that tutor Katie Hess will be teaching again at Sundragon this New Year.
Katie’s work is all about experimenting with form, surface decoration, and always trying out new ideas.
Katie is trained to teach Art, and her main practice is ceramics.
This five week course starts at 10.00 am, on Monday 8th January 2024 in our beautiful basement Studio 2 in Moseley School of Art.
Moseley School of Art, Birmingham by Sam Mellish.
The course will take place every Monday Morning from 10.00 am- 12.30 pm on the following dates.
Available
During the course you will learn how to “wedge”/prepare the clay ready for making.
Katie will teach you various methods of hand-building, and you will also be taught the beginnings of throwing on the potters wheel.
You will learn about surface decoration using coloured slips and various glazing techniques. Throughout the course you will also learn “good studio practice”, the art of keeping your work area as clean/tidy as possible, thus, benefiting everyone.
This course is designed to be a short intensive introduction to ceramic life at Sundragon Community Pottery. However, it is also suited to people who might just like Monday Morning Pottery, where they can continue to learn and hone their pottery making skills.
Clay can be messy, so please dress for outdoor play.
Long nails can really inhibit your creativity with clay, so please do remember to trim them.
Bring a clean wipeable apron and an old hand towel to each class.
The last 20 minutes of each class is dedicated to cleaning up.
Please check your Spam and Junk mail for your confirmation email after booking this course.
