5 Week Tuesday Afternoon Wheelwork For Beginners and Improvers with Ian Gwynne – January 2024

We are delighted that tutor Ian Gwynne, will be leading this popular afternoon class at Sundragon this New Yesr.  Ian’s work is all about the refinement of form and experimental surface decoration.

This course takes place in our beautiful basement Studio 1, in Moseley School of Art.

This five week course starts on Tuesady 9th January 2024, and will take place every Tuesday afternoon from 1.30 pm – 4.00 pm on the following dates.

  • 30th January
  • 6th February

 

This course takes place over five weeks.

Each class runs for 2 1/2 hours.

During the course you will learn how to,  “wedge”/prepare the clay for throwing, and throw pots on the potter’s wheel.  On the wheel you will learn centering, and then methods to make vessels.  You will also learn “turning”, the process of tidying up the base of your pots.

You will learn about surface decoration using coloured slips and various glazing techniques.  Throughout the course you will also learn “good studio practice”, the art of keeping your work area as clean/tidy as possible, thus, benefiting everyone.

Description

Clay can be messy, so please dress for outdoor play.

Long nails can really inhibit your creativity with clay, so please do remember to trim them.

Bring a clean wipeable apron and an old hand towel to each class.

The last 20 minutes of each class is dedicated to cleaning up.
