Creative Health Alliance Project, Week 3

We’ve put together 100 clay packs along with a booklet which we hope is both inspiring and informative. Fiona wrote most of the booklet with the excellent contributions and advice of Katie, Kate and Layla. Admittedly there was a final version, a final final version and an absolutely final, final version but that’s because we wanted it to be just right for the people who’d be using it.

We’re really proud of our packs – Becky, Layla and Kate worked hard to source the best value materials and we’re sure that when anyone opens the box and looks inside they’ll be instantly inspired to get creative!

The creative clay is the bulkiest item in the kit and was sourced from one of our pottery suppliers.  Creative clay is air drying clay so it doesn’t have to be fired in a kiln – when it’s dry enough it can be painted with the acrylic paints which we’ve also included in our kits. In addition, there are a selection of basic tools.

We’ve tried to think of everything and we’re aware that not everyone has lots of space to work in.  The box which the kit is supplied in can be used as a worktop, the clay can be kept in it’s ziplock bag to keep moist and workable. We’ve included two sturdy cloths: one to put on the work surface; the other one to dampen and wrap the clay in (all the more important in a heatwave).  Kate tested the paints to make sure it was good quality, and it was! We also tested our making ideas with the clay a) to photograph for the booklet and b) to be sure that we weren’t suggesting the impossible.

This week Fiona (with the help of google maps, on one of the hottest days of the year) had a lovely scenic tour of Warwickshire, delivering packs to St Basils @stbasilscharity, P3 project @P3Charity, @P3Warwickshire as well as individual clients. We’re really looking forward to finding out what people make with their clay.

We’re starting to work with another organisation in South Warwickshire and Coventry. We still have some packs available (half of them have gone already). If you work with a charitable organisation in Coventry or Warwickshire, supporting vulnerable children or adults in any capacity, get in touch as soon as possible. We have limited quantities available free of charge to those you support.
